my labor and delivery of Adam

Wow, this is a belated post.  Adam is not 4 months, almost 5, but I will never ever forget how he arrived into this beautiful and exciting place we called earth.

From the 37th to 40th week, I have been getting calls and texts from family and friends asking - if I am in labor yet!  Some anticipated that he will arrive early and some late, but never ontime.  On my 40th week, I was rolling myself out of bed, going to the bathroom at least 2 times a night and having a hard time sleeping in.  We went to our 39th week appointment with Dr. Perez at Kaiser, which was the last appointment in my book.  No contractions, no bleeding - she said lets schedule another appointment on October 31st - the day before our due date.  Scott has been very supportive and accompanied me to almost every doctor's visit.

October 30th - typical day, work, trying to get every organized just in case if baby is coming any minute.  Left work on time, and went home.  Decided that it's not the best day to cook so we went to this place called the Habit in Sierra Madre.  I had a Chicken Club sandwich, Scott had a burger.  And this was the last meal we had together as a married couple before our first child arrives.

October is a busy month for birthdays.  We have Scott's dad on October 26.  Bryan on October 28 and October 31st for Halloween.  We were crossing our fingers that Adam's birthday will not land on any of those dates.  Not to mention that it's Connor's birthday on Nov 3rd.

October 31st AM: I noticed that I wasnt able to sleep in as well as I could the previous nights.  Been up thinking about the next day and then started to feel these minor cramps in the abdominal area.  These cramps began to come periodically.  Scott was sound asleep and I didnt want to wake him.  I went to the bathroom more frequently that night and noticed these bloody muscus in the toilet.  I tell myself...is this what they call the mucus plug?

Our typical alarm came on at 7AM and Scott woke up, brushed his teeth while I lay in bed trying to understand this discomfort I am having.  I woke up and went to my computer and answered some emails...trying to not think too much about it.  When it was almost time to go see the doctors, I told Scott...I am having contractions.  We both agreed that to just let the doctor check my condition and we'll go from there.

Got into the doctor's room and she checked my dilation.  She was so surprised that I was still able to walk and talk even when I was 6cm dilated!  She called the doctor and told them that a patient will be admitted and told us to go to the hospital right away.  From there on.....I was in labor until 4 in the morning with the help of my sister, Scott and my mom in the room, all cheering me on until Adam arrived.   I went through almost everything - narcotics, epidural, Pitocin, pushed from midnight to 4 in the morning.  I was exhausted and was so relieved when Adam slipped out.   The nurse Joy brought me a tall glass of cranberry juice and a sandwich which tasted so good.  I scarfed it down and was looking for a my next meal.

So I decided to conclude this post when Adam is now 10 months.  He is beautiful, sweet, so amazing.  I look forward to spending every minute, every day with him.  He is so full of energy and so full of life.  He is now asleep and I miss him so much already.
