Today is a Great day
Today is unlike any other day. Adam is able to fall asleep at home without me driving him out. It's 4PM and Alice has been napping since 2PM. I am able to write briefly about how insanely crazy the past 10 days have been. Ok..nevermind...Alice is up now.

Alice Tang - March 25, 2015 at 2:30AM
This was one pregnancy that went by so fast! I am so happy that it ended according to my "birth plan". 2014 has been quite the trying year. From trying to conceive the second time, seeing the happy face on the ovulation calculator, reading the second line on the pregnancy test, everything went really smooth. I had minimal morning sickness and finding out that this baby is going to be a girl just made this pregnancy so very exciting. I told myself I want this to me another memorable labor and delivery and had my heart set on having a natural delivery (again).
Not until when I found out that when I was 34 weeks that she is still breech, it seemed like my plan isnt going to proceed as planned. So I did my research on the web on everything about breech babies in a matter of 2 days. I have started doing breech tilts, elephant walks, downward facing dog and putting frozen peas on the belly, but she seemed to be stuck at the breech position. Finally, I decided to try the Webster method which seemed to be less invasive and natural. I went to see a chiropractor down the street from my house who specialized in prenatal and child care. She performed the Webster technique on me 5 times and on my next appointment - she flipped. If she hasn't flipped that day, I would have been scheduled for an ECV on the following Tuesday which happened to be my delivery day!
The weekend before she arrived, Scott and I finally decided to nest - set up the crib, washed sheets, rearrange things to welcome this new baby. Although not fully completed, we had an idea on what we need to do after a serious discussion (finally). On 3/24 morning - I went to the bathroom as usual around 4-5AM and I think my water broke...
Water started to leak that morning with little to no contractions. I needed to be at work this week because I had sent out my two key staff to a tradeshow in Shanghai. So I went to work for a few hours and went home around 2PM and got ready to go to the hospital at 5PM. Scott went to work with me and I tried to get my mind off of the contractions. But water was trickling down and it started to be uncomfortable and I knew I should go home. I wanted to use the bathroom, take a shower this time (before confinement starts) and tried to get everything ready...I even call the hospital and asked if I should come in and they said yes...Since my water broke, I was admitted right away.
We checked into a room, changed and got my IV. Got checked and I was only 1-1.5cm dilated! I was like WHAT!!! Unlike last time, when I got admitted I was already 6cm dilated!
Contractions were still very mild to nothing at all. Until 9PM, they decided to use pitocin to strengthen my contractions. This time around, it was only Scott in the room so he was giving me hard lower back rubs and feeding me too many ice chips. He had a lot too. This time, he didnt watch movies and I think he was trying really hard not to play games during my labor. haha. He was calmed and composed as always while I was getting a little annoyed with the contractions.
The stronger contractions started to come in at around 12AM and our nurse was giving me options for pain meds which I refused each time...hesitantly. The contractions then started getting really strong to a point I was hugging the side bars on the side to get through the pain. I told Scott that I think I should get epidural...but he told me if its natural birth that I wanted, I should stick to it. Then the contractions started to come every minute and at the end of the contraction, I felt a strong urge to push...like if you have an uncontrollable bowel movement. I told Scott to call our nurse and he called the charge nurse who came right away and checked me. I was already 10cm dilated and -2...which means...she is ready to exit and enter this world. I was experiencing contractions every minute now and the next thing I know, an MD came in with her hat and gloves ready to receive this baby. Then this happened:
- I put up my legs on the support
- feeling a contraction
- They told me to hold and then PUSH
- her head came out
- I was grabbing my thighs and tucked my chin as instructed and pushed again..
- Then she came out and they put her on top of me...
The doctor needed to stitch the 2nd degree tear and asked if I wanted any pain meds..I said yes and so glad I did. They injected narcotics into my IV and everything just became a total blur. The procedure lasted 15 minutes which was so much longer than the first time. I am happy though that this time an MD operated on me and she was being very professional through the whole operation.
by 3:30AM, we were able to move into our room and I was able to sleep with baby Alice!
